The 93rd annual reunion of the Tyson and May families convened at the Major Benjamin May Chapter House with 98 registered attendees. Following the welcome and remarks from Reunion President Elizabeth Smith Borum, Alyssa Howell and Mike Barnette, accompanied by Kathi Howell, led all in singing "Let There Be Peace on Earth". The Honorable John B. Lewis, Jr. shared thoughts and offered the blessing on the reunion and on the catered lunch and fellowship to follow.
After a time visiting with family members over lunch, Vice-president Mickey Tripp opened the later session with the traditional singing of his composition honoring his mother, "The Tyson-May Reunion Prayer". Bob Newton gave announcements concerning books available and the display of the 1902 quilt assembled as a fundraiser for the local Methodist Church.
The program was presented by Tyson descendant Frances Harrington Davis of Poquosin, Virginia, President General of Colonial Dames 17th Century. She shared insight and suggestions regarding researching and documenting genealogy. One bit of advice she offered was that there might be some unanticipated surprises on the family tree!
Delphia Rawls Hedgepeth, Reunion President of the 1988 Reunion, led a beautiful memorial service honoring family members now gone from our midst. Alyssa and Mike rendered "My Tribute" to conclude the memorial service.
President Borum called for the minutes of the 2012 Reunion. The minutes were approved, the treasurer's report (attached to these minutes) was presented, and donations were received to offset reunion expenses. Bob Newton reminded everyone to keep Bernice and him updated on births, marriages and deaths for Reunion records.
